Full Multiband Optical Link Analyzer Available for Download - Now

By pierluigi.poggiolini@polito.it

A new advanced multiband optical link analyzer, PCFM 1.0, is now available for download.

PCFM 1.0 allows you to model an arbitrary multiband (such as C+L+S+more) optical system, with no constraints: each span can be different, use a different fiber and a different amplifier. You can have as many span as you please, from single-span to transoceanic (100+ spans). Each WDM channel can be different too, in all its features. Channel spacing needs not be uniform.

Forward and backward-pumped Raman amplification is fully supported. You can use as many pumps as you want and the software will figure out the resulting spatial power profile of each channel, taking also ISRS (Interchannel Stimulated Raman Scattering) into account.

PCFM 1.0 figures out the non-linear interference (NLI) affecting each channel, as well as the ASE noise, also from the Raman amplifiers. It then computes the GSNR at the end of the link for each channel, individually.

"PCFM" stands for "polynomial closed-form-model" and is a recent breakthrough obtained by the OptCom Group, related to optical link modeling. If you want to know more, you can read:
