A new version of the advanced multiband optical link analyzer, PCFM v1.2, is now available for download.

The software can be downloaded from the Zenodo repository, at this link:

Thanks to the many people that have visited the Zenodo repository so far: over 620 since we published the first version! Drop us a line with your feedback!

PCFM v1.2 can deal with:
- single or multi-span systems (spans can be all different from one-another)
- multiband systems (C, L, S, U, etc.)
- any symbol rate or modulation format (including Gaussian-shaped)
- any fiber type: you can provide custom frequency-dependent loss, dispersion, non-linearity coefficient, for each span
- Raman amplification, both forward and backward-pumped

It accounts for:
- frequency dependent loss, dispersion, non-linearity
- Interchannel Stimulated Raman Scattering (ISRS)
- ASE from Raman effect in general

Current version v1.2 limitations:
- it may lose accuracy when dispersion is too low (D<3 ps/nm km)
- it may lose accuracy with multi-subcarrier systems, where subcarriers are very low symbol rate (less than 16 GBaud)
- modeling of EDFAs or other types of DFAs is static: you need to provide gain vs. frequency and NF vs. frequency at the operating point
- double-Rayleigh backscattering is not accounted for
All these limitations will be removed in the upcoming versions, so STAY TUNED.

PCFM 1.2 has several new system examples, including:
1. 1000 km C+L+S system with Raman amplification optimized for throughput (as in v1.1)
2. 1000 km C+L+S system with Raman amplification optimized for throughput and GSNR flatness (new!)
3. 3000 km C+L system with Raman amplification optimized for throughput (new!)
4. 3000 km C+L system with Raman amplification optimized for throughput and GSNR flatness (new!)
5. 7000 km C-band system optimized for throughput (new!)
